Deconvolution of Adaptive Optics Image Data
نویسنده
چکیده
Adaptive optics compensation of turbulence effects in image data is seldom perfect. To achieve diffraction-limited resolution, especially with astronomical systems designed to guide on very dim natural objects, post-detection processing (deconvolution) must be accomplished. I discuss the history of deconvolution schemes in astronomical imaging, the limits imposed by data noise, and details of some algorithms. I also discuss observing techniques and instrumentation to optimize angular resolution and minimize artifacts in processed imagery.

AIDA: an adaptive image deconvolution algorithm with application to multi-frame and three-dimensional data.
We describe an adaptive image deconvolution algorithm (AIDA) for myopic deconvolution of multi-frame and three-dimensional data acquired through astronomical and microscopic imaging. AIDA is a reimplementation and extension of the MISTRAL method developed by Mugnier and co-workers and shown to yield object reconstructions with excellent edge preservation and photometric precision [J. متن کاملRobust Multi-Frame Adaptive Optics Image Restoration Algorithm Using Maximum Likelihood Estimation with Poisson Statistics
An adaptive optics (AO) system provides real-time compensation for atmospheric turbulence. However, an AO image is usually of poor contrast because of the nature of the imaging process, meaning that the image contains information coming from both out-of-focus and in-focus planes of the object, which also brings about a loss in quality. In this paper, we present a robust multi-frame adaptive opt...
متن کاملDeconvolution of adaptive optics retinal images.
We quantitatively demonstrate the improvement to adaptively corrected retinal images by using deconvolution to remove the residual wave-front aberrations. Qualitatively, deconvolution improves the contrast of the adaptive optics images. In this work we demonstrate that quantitative information is also increased by investigation of the improvement to cone classification due to the reduction in c...
متن کاملWhat AO can Deliver to the Astronomer Today { and what an Astronomer Would Like to Find in the Software Toolbox
Over the past few years high-resolution imaging with adaptive optics has become an important technique with a wide variety of applications in Solar System physics, stellar astronomy, and extragalactic research. Much of the recent progress can be attributed to a few key factors: the growing number of astronomers who have access to user-friendly AO systems, improvements in the limiting magnitude ...
متن کاملApplication of adaptive optics in retinal imaging: A quantitative and clinical comparison with standard cameras
Aim: The objective of this project was to evaluate high resolution images from an adaptive optics retinal imager through comparisons with standard film-based and standard digital fundus imagers. Methods: A clinical prototype adaptive optics fundus imager (AOFI) was used to collect retinal images from subjects with various forms of retinopathy to determine whether improved visibility into the di...
